Pop Up TSA Processing at NY Penn
NEW YORK – The Transportation Security Administration is partnering with United Airlines to host a “pop-up” enrollment center to provide a convenient location to enroll in the TSA Pre✓® program. Individuals passing through New York Penn Station will be able to enroll in the agency’s popular TSA Pre✓® application program inside the United Airlines Ticketing Office. Enrollment will be available through February 8.
To participate in this enrollment opportunity, travelers should make an appointment online and pre-enroll. After completing the pre-enrollment steps, applicants type in the location as New York, NY, and click on the search button to select the enrollment site for United Airlines Penn Station. Appointments will be available from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. inside the United Airlines Ticketing Office located on the same level as the Amtrak ticket counter, just off the main rotunda. The center can also accommodate walk-ins.
Applicants must bring documentation proving identity and citizenship status. Visit the Universal Enroll website for a list of acceptable documents that prove identity and citizenship.United Explorer Card members receive a statement credit of $85 that covers the TSA Pre✓® application fee when purchased with their card. United MileagePlus® members who are first-time applicants of TSA Pre✓® may also use 10,000 miles for a code that covers the TSA Pre✓®application fee.
The application process allows U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents to enroll directly in TSA Pre✓® – an expedited screening program that allows travelers to leave on their shoes, light outerwear and belt, keep their laptop in its case and their 3-1-1 compliant liquids/gels bag in a carry-on, in select TSA airport checkpoint screening lanes. More than 200 airports participate in TSA Pre✓® nationwide and more than 50 airlines participate in the program.
The application fee is $85 and is good for five years. It must be paid at the time of your appointment by credit card, money order, company check, or certified/cashier’s check. Cash and personal checks are not accepted. Fingerprints and a photograph are required during the in-person enrollment session.
After completing enrollment, successful applicants will receive electronic or phone notification that states TSA’s assessment is complete and provides information on retrieving their Known Traveler Number (KTN). Applicants may check their application status and retrieve their KTN, if applicable, at any time by visiting here. The enrollee should enter the provided KTN in the “Known Traveler Number” field when booking airline reservations. The KTN also can be added when booking reservations online via a participating airline website, via phone call to the airline reservation center, or with the travel management company making reservations. Additionally, the KTN can be entered in participating airline frequent flyer profiles, where it will be stored for future reservations.
